Building Future Staff & Active Citizens for Life
Camp Ocoee’s Teen Leadership Academy is a comprehensive training program designed to develop the leadership skills of the camp's future staff. Teens in this program receive extensive training in the skills needed to be effective leaders, not only at Camp Ocoee but also within their communities. The academy focuses on building strong leadership qualities through hands-on experience and mentorship, preparing teens for roles of responsibility and influence.
Rooted in the camp's long-standing Christian mission, Camp Ocoee emphasizes personal and group development. The camp believes that staff members are crucial role models for Christian leadership, and as such, they are expected to exemplify strong Christian values in both their actions and interactions. The Teen Leadership Academy supports this mission by helping teens build a foundation of Christian service, equipping them to serve both camp guests and the broader community with integrity and compassion.
Counselors In Training (two weeks-rising 11th graders)
The Counselors-in-Training (CIT) program at YMCA Camp Ocoee is designed for rising high school juniors who are eager to develop their leadership skills and train to become counselors. Over the course of two weeks, CITs work closely with experienced counselors, engage with the teen leadership coordinator, and receive ongoing supervision to learn the essential aspects of being a high-quality counselor and leader at camp.
During their training, CITs live in a cabin, assisting counselors in facilitating meaningful camp experiences for the campers. They also help instruct various program activities, gaining hands-on experience in different areas of camp life. As part of their experience, CITs participate in the exciting Ocoee Raft trip, which is included in the program fee. This immersive opportunity helps prepare them for future leadership roles, building their confidence and skills in a supportive, hands-on environment.

Ocoee Ambassadors in Review (up to two weeks-rising 12th graders)
Campers who successfully complete the Ocoee CIT (Counselors-in-Training) program are eligible to become Ocoee Ambassadors (OARs). This prestigious role offers teens the opportunity to return to camp for an extended period of time, at no cost (non-paid). As OARs, they volunteer in various aspects of camp life, including program development, facility upkeep, Christian ministry, camper mentoring, and community service.
OARs work closely with camp administration, gaining valuable experience by being placed in a cabin group with younger campers. They assist counselors with the day-to-day care of the campers and help facilitate the camp experience. Throughout their time at camp, OARs receive continuous feedback on how to refine their leadership and counseling skills. At the end of their experience, they are given an evaluation to assess their readiness to serve as future staff members at Camp Ocoee.
To be considered for the Ocoee Ambassador program, please complete the application provided below. This opportunity allows teens to grow in their leadership abilities while contributing meaningfully to the camp community.
